CLEANING & MAINTENANCE GUIDE

How to care for your Powder Coating finish

Powder coating is a finishing system recognized for its resistance and durability. However, like any surface exposed to the environment, it requires periodic cleaning and maintenance to preserve its appearance and help extend its useful life.

Contaminant buildup

Dust, salt, pollution, organic residues and other substances can progressively affect the surface if left for extended periods.

Periodic maintenance

Regular cleaning helps preserve the appearance and lifespan of the finish.

Warranty preservation

Proper maintenance also helps preserve the applicable warranty conditions.

ROUTINE CLEANING

Recommended cleaning step by step

For routine cleaning of your powder coated finish:

01

Remove surface dust

Carefully remove dust, leaves or loose debris before starting the cleaning.

02

Use warm or clean water

Moisten the surface to help loosen accumulated dirt.

03

Use mild soap

Mix a small amount of pH-neutral soap or detergent with water.

04

Clean with a soft cloth

Use a microfiber cloth, soft sponge or non-abrasive material.

05

Clean without excessive pressure

Gently wipe the cloth across the surface, paying special attention to areas where dirt accumulates.

06

Rinse thoroughly

Remove all soap residue using clean water.

07

Dry the surface

When possible, use a clean, soft microfiber to avoid water marks and mineral buildup.

PROHIBITED PRODUCTS

What you should NEVER use

To protect the finish, avoid solvents, harsh chemicals, abrasive materials and tools that scratch. You should also avoid placing the nozzle of a pressure washer or pressure cleaner too close to the coating: concentrated pressure, especially on edges, joints or previously damaged areas, can affect the finish. When pressure washing is used, it should be done at a safe distance and with moderate pressure, avoiding directing the jet directly at damaged edges or vulnerable areas.

Consult about a product

Solvents and fuels

Acetone, thinner or strong solvents, gasoline or other aggressive derivatives.

Harsh chemicals

Acids, highly alkaline products and strong chemical cleaners without prior approval.

Abrasive materials

Steel wool, metallic brushes, abrasive fibers, sandpaper and abrasive polishes.

Tools that scratch

Any tool that may scratch the surface of the coating.

MAINTENANCE FREQUENCY

How often should it be cleaned?

As a general reference. Frequency should be adapted to the actual conditions of the location where the piece is installed or used.

Indoors

Clean when visible accumulation of dust or dirt appears.

Outdoors under normal conditions

Approximately every 3 months.

Coastal areas or high salt exposure

Considerably more frequent cleaning is recommended.

Industrial areas or high pollution

Increase frequency according to exposure level.

After accidental contact with contaminants

Bird droppings, chemicals or other substances: clean as soon as possible.

PREVENTIVE INSPECTION

Inspect the surface during cleaning

During cleaning we recommend inspecting the surface. If you observe any of these conditions, do not ignore the affected area: contact M&M Powder Coating to determine whether repair or evaluation is recommended before the damage can spread.

Impacts

Dents or impacts that may have compromised the coating.

Deep scratches

Scratches that go beyond the surface of the finish.

Exposed metal

Areas where the substrate becomes visible.

Localized peeling

Separation of the coating in specific areas.

Signs of corrosion

Rust or corrosion on or under the finish.

Installation or use damage

Deterioration originated after project delivery.

SIMPLE RULE

Simple rule to maintain your finish

Clean water + mild soap + soft cloth + periodic maintenance. Avoiding aggressive products and promptly addressing any physical damage will help preserve the appearance, protection and performance of the powder coating for longer.
